Show GRANITE ARTS BILLS FIXE SERIES Granite Arts Association lifts the curtain on its 1952-53 season October Octo-ber 22 at Granite high school with Puccini's light opera, "Madame Butterfly." It will be staged by the Tokyo Fujiwara Opera company, featuring featur-ing the foremost lyric soprano of Japan, Madame Harue Miyake, and is one of the company's opening performances in America. Original Japanese scenery has been brought from Japan for the tour. Music will be played by the Intermountain Symphony under the baton of Allen Jensen. Ten other entertainments, are scheduled- for the Granite Arts season. The globe-trotting Platoff Don Cossack chorus and dancers will appear November 4. This popular pop-ular organization is on its fourteenth four-teenth swing around the nation. Fran William Hall, nature expert, ex-pert, will present his color film lecture, lec-ture, "South of Siesta Land" on December 2. On December 17 the well-known Virginia Tanner modern dance ensemble en-semble will perform, featuring local talented children. Wildlife photographer Howard Cleaves ,will present "Animals Un-award" Un-award" January 8. The nationally-famous Julliard String Quartet will take the spotlight spot-light on January 14 for its third appearance before a Utah audience. audi-ence. Eve Gentry will bring another modern dance program to the concert con-cert season with her appearance on January 28. Presenting duets, trios, quartets and sextets of grand opera and operettas, the National Operatic Sextet will appear February 5. Gershwin Concert Orchestra will bring such works as "Rhapsody in Blue" and "American in Paris" on Gershwin Festival night, March 19. Contralto concert star Clara-mae Clara-mae Turner will appear April 8. Miss Turner will be remembered for her leading role in Sampson and Delilah last summer in the University sadium. |
