Show "SEE-SAW in : A ; hi- U Well, sir, it appears to us there's an arbitrary police captain downtown down-town who draw a lot of water. His name is Fred Lee. This week, or possibly even before be-fore the new police commissioner was sworn in last week, he shifted four lieutenants to other duties "to give them experience." Nothing wrong with that. But at least two of these lieutenants lieu-tenants have had that "experience." Plenty of it! One was Lt. Ray S. Cahoon, head of the Sugar House detail. Now, Lt. Cahoon has had that downtown traffic detail twice before, be-fore, and he gets his share of traffic traf-fic duty right here in Sugar House. The modest, retiring, but nonetheless none-theless efficient and intelligent, Lt. Cuhoon was well liked by the citizens of these parts. They can see no reason for his assignment sheet ordering him downtown into the traffic bureau. After all, he's been there, as well as in the youth burprm nH co-,. 1'oiice Chief Clark Sanford He's aware of the transfer all right, but does he know how unpopular the swap was? r 1 8 Iff. Li other detail of the department. Insofar as we've been able to learn, he hadn't committed any infractions in-fractions or disobeyed any rules that should take him out of Sugar House, a place he likes and a place that likes him. Now, mind you one and all, there is nothing we know wrong with Lt. Hopkins, Cahoon's replacement. Also there's nothing wrong with an occasional switch in personnel unless it is motivated by petty politics, personal "climbing" ' or some other excuse too often used by men in power. Of course Chief of Police Clark Stanford is aware of the changes, but one might wonder if he's aware that shifting Lt. Cahoon Is mighty unpopular in these parts. (Editors note: Incidentally, this piece was not inspired by Lt. Cahoon. Ca-hoon. He is unaware of it, although he does know of our personal feelings feel-ings in the matter, and we might point out, he also had nothing to do with the SEE-SAW of a couple or three weeks ago when this same police captain was roughed up a little for showing what looked like discriminations among certain merchants mer-chants and their displays in this section.) Lt. Ray S. Cahoon He's hustled hus-tled downtown to take charge of traffic, and his Sugar House friends are unhappy. |
