With snow being predicted by the middle of October less than a month away loca ski enthusiasts are getting their equipment and togs into first-class first-class shape for the first flurry. All indications point to this being be-ing the biggest year for skiing in the history of the state. Last year over 75,000 people visited Alta alone, during its short sea-' sea-' son. This year the experts claim ' that that figure will be topped ' by at least 40 per cent. At Alta the main lift has been speeded np from seven minutes to a four minute ride. Also, the lA mile lift has an added 2 chairs to expedite the long lines. The news from Snow Basin concerns the number one prob-!em prob-!em the muddy road leading up to it. This summer the highway department put on a brand new black top, which should prove a great boon to all skiiers; especially es-pecially the Ogden enthusiasts. For skiiers who wish to "tune up" this fall on a more convenient, conven-ient, less rugged hill, the mountain moun-tain up Emigration Canyon (on the road between Emigration and Parley's will be lighted. Fker Hill is undergoing a Vice lifting operation at the nresent time. It is the belief of many in authority that-this renovation will make Ecker's the finest jumping hill in the country. The take-off is being lowered so that now it will be much easier to get over. Weatherman predictions on snow conditions at Alta this year: "There will be only one -nowfall at Alta this year, as always: al-ways: starting in September 1 and ending in June." |
