Show Old Granite, Mill Moving To New Site A familiar landmark in Sugar House since 1908, the old red. planing mill at 2167 Highland Drive, has a very questionable future at the present time. Barring unforseen delays in materials,, ma-terials,, the .Granite Mill and Fixture "Company will uproot and move its plant lock, stock and barrel into its large, new brick, steel and concrete quarters quar-ters at 1145 Wilmington Ave. on Nov. 1. The new plant is directly east of the old mill, facing south on Wilmington. Construction on the new plant and office began on April 1. By the time it is completed, over 30.000 square feet of floor space will have been added and approximately $70,000 will have been spent. The new plant will be modern mod-ern in every detail. The huge electric panel, controlling all the machinery in the plant is of the latest design. All lighting is fluorescent. The heating and cooling plant will be a combination combi-nation affair. Most of the 30.. 000 square feet floor space will be taken up with machinery. However, there will be an 18 foot drive running the entire length of the plant, on the east side. This will allow speedy delivery de-livery and handling of fast-moving storage from two sides. What will become of the old mill itself is debateable at present. pres-ent. Several offers have been presented to the owners, but as yet. none have been accepted. The new offices will be on the second floor of the new building, build-ing, along with the drafting room. These will be much more spacious than those in the old plant. Approximately 10 machines ma-chines will go into the new plant, ranging in horsepower from -10 hp to 1-2 hp. Officers of the Granite Mill and Fixture Company who are supervising the move are: W. H. Allington, president: F. R. Sandberg, manager; W- L. Sand-berg, Sand-berg, assistant mgr.; and A. L. Hansen, scecretary-reasurer. |
