Show Army Building Gives U of U Needed Space Adequate classroom space for the record enrollment expected at the University of Utah was assured as-sured this' week when President A. Ray Olpin announced that the administration annex building of the Ninth service command at Fort Douglas has been leased to the university. I "The university will now be able to accommodate all Utah students who want to attend their state university ,this fall," Presiden Olpin stated. The building acquired is 2V2 stories high, with approximately: 90,000 square feet of (classroom and office space, all of which can be converted to the university's use with a minimum of labor and material. It is located about one-half mile from the university univer-sity campus, has more classroom space than any four campus buildings, combined, and will increase in-crease the university classroom space by about 40 per cent, President Pres-ident Olpin said. It has a large central heating plant, and a cafeteria cafe-teria with sufficient seating capacity ca-pacity for all the students who will be attending classes in the Fort building. Leasing the building came after aft-er three months of negotiations between the university and government gov-ernment officials. 1 Utah's congressional con-gressional delegation, state and civic, officials, aided in obtaining lease of the building for the university. At least S000 'students are expected ex-pected to enroll at the university univer-sity this fall, of which 5000 will transcript of their high school be veterans, according to President Pres-ident Olpin. Students intending to enroll this fall should send a credits to J. A. Norton, registrar, and request admission blanks, which must be filed before students stu-dents are entitled to register. Registration and placement examinations for new students began this week. Popular Couple Leave for Capitol Mr. and Mrs. Howard J. Anderson An-derson have returned to Washington, Wash-ington, D. C. The Andersons and their five year old daughter, Marsha have been the house guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Parley P. Anderson, 75S S. 8th W., and Mrs. Fred Sheffield Shef-field of Kaysville. They have also al-so visited with the Marcus Jensen Jen-sen family, 1540 Millcreek Way. This is the first opportunity this "well-known couple have had to return to their homo city since Wr. Anderson received his ensign's en-sign's commission in the navy three years ago.. They will make their home in the capitol city where Mr. Anderson has opened up law offices. Mrs. Anderson An-derson will be remembered as the former Lorna Sheffield. |
