Show Sugar House Sets Pace for SL, With Gala Holiday Festival "1 I fV ! ? 1 h f m --h r i - i . 3 JIST A FEW of the hundreds of youngsters who huve eagerly detailed their Christmas wants to Santa Clans in the Christmas House on the plaza in Sugar House during the week. Santa will be there again - today and Saturday with free cookies for all. Santa Claus, Giant Tree Draw Tnrongs Well, Sugar House has done it again set the pace for a community com-munity celebration and stolen the show from downtown. The big community Christmas tree in the plaza the largest ever brought out of the hills in this region for Yuletide decoration the daily broadcast program of Christmas music, and the appearance ap-pearance of Santa Claus listening listen-ing to the fond hopes and prayers pray-ers of the youngsters and distributing dis-tributing free gifts, has brought thousands into the Sugar House shopping center every day this week. Today and tomorrow the daily program will be repeated from the charming little Christmas house in the plaza were Santa greets the boys and girls, and choice holiday music is sung and pl'ayed. Every day about 2 p.m. the little folks start to line up to greet the jolly old gentlemen gentle-men and whisper their Christmas Christ-mas wishes . . and Santa is hearing some interesting things. He told the Bulletin he's going go-ing to have a little trouble filling fill-ing all the orders some of them want baby brothers and sisters one little lass wanted twin babies ba-bies at her house and lots and lots say they don't care what else they get, if only daddy or brother or uncle could get a ride home in Santa's sleigh. And a surprising number know a good future investment when they see it too. These last are asking for war bonds and stamps. But of course the main requests run along the conventional lines dollies, wagons, scooters, .sleds,. .. skis, games, books and nice neve-clothes neve-clothes and of course don't forget for-get Mom and Dad either. The giant tree was donated by the Sieverts brothers of Sunbeam Sun-beam Heating & Electric, and was hauled in from their ranch in Wyoming. Several musical groups either have been heard or will be heard on the musical end of the program. An ensemble front Westminster is one of the attractions, at-tractions, double quartet from Irving high directed by Grant Home and including Milton Christensen, Lamar Hare, Monte Poulson, Gaylen Rigby, I Melvin Heuward, Clyde Smith, Clare Weiser and Garry Noorda, has sung once and is scheduled for another appearance, along with a group from Bryant, another an-other group from South, Norma Allsop, accordionist, and Al Jorgensen who doubles on the I accordion in addition to the red j suit and whiskers act. ' Horace A. Sorensen, chamber I president who is directing the 1 Christmas program, says merchants mer-chants generally are reporting a record volume of business and that the whole undertaking, including in-cluding the spectacular tree, the street lighting and the colorful window displays throughout the -area, is proving a huge success. |
