Show "Merry Widow" Musical Set For Stadium Mon. By VIRGINIA BAKER What with a wealthy and beautiful young widow loose in Paris the world's most romantic roman-tic city anything's likely to happen. And happen it does in the University of Utah's Fourth Summer Festival production of "The Merry Widow," opening Monday next in Stadium Bowl at 8:45 p.m. Starring in the opera will be Vera Uryner, Robert Rounse-ville Rounse-ville and George Jongeyans and the show will close on July 14. Miss Bryner, who pays Sonia, the widow in question, is the star on NBC-TV production of "Carmen" and of the Broadway production of Menotti's "The Consul." Mr. Rounseville, who will play Jolidon ,her romantic fling, recently re-cently starred with Moira Shearer Shear-er in J. Arthur Rank's "Tales of Hoffman." He will be remembered remem-bered by Sugarites who saw 'Carmen" and "The Great Waltz" two years ago in Stadium Stadi-um Bowl. 1 Mr. Jongayans just finished the role of Jupiter in Cole Porter's Por-ter's "Out of This World," which had an extended run on Broadway. Broad-way. All three of these artists are leading singers with the New York City Opera Company. Leading dancing roles have been assigned to Barton Mu-maw, Mu-maw, who is America's leading male dancer, and Sally Bailey, graceful prima .ballerina of the San Francisco Ballet Company. Mr. Mumaw appeared in Salt Lake when he danced the leading lead-ing Indian role in 1947 version of Promised Valley. As usual with the Summer Festival, director will be C. Lowell Lees, head of the department de-partment of speech, and musical director will be Maurice Abrav-anel, Abrav-anel, who also directs the Utah Symphony orchestra. The exceedingly high standard stan-dard of choreography of the last two seasons will be maintained by the direction of William Christensen, director of the San Francisco Ballet. Mr. Christen-sen's Christen-sen's affiliation with the University Uni-versity as an instructor the year round is a real boost in developing devel-oping the fine dancing talent available in this area. "Tales of Hoffman." with the same all-star cast, will run July 19. 20 and 21. Mr. Rounseville will re-create his motion picture title role. Tickets for both shows are available at the box office at nd South and Main, and at Kingsbury Hall. |
