Show 'Out East Mill Creek Way' By Frances Xeff Mr. and Mrs. Lief Hirkelanci and their three children, residents resi-dents of East Mill Creek at 3525 . South 23rd East, have recently returned to East Mill Creek after aft-er a four month's visit to Mr. Birkeland's father, who lives in Haugesund, Norway. The P.irkelands b.ouht with I them a token of appreciation from the Latter-day Saints in Norway for the assistance rendered ren-dered the members .of the church in Norway. Mr. Birkeland reports that the people in the old countiy are still suffering many hardships, but they are very happy to be free again. However, he says that he's very hapy to be back in America again. Election of students officers for the net school year look place at Olympus Junior Hijih recently. The results of these elections were as follows: Buddy AYhite was elected president; Yanet Sorenson, vice president; Kathleen Bentley. secretary; ami Betty Johnson, M. iris Anderson, Ander-son, Jeanne Stuhhs, Jack Pendleton, Pen-dleton, and Jackie Barnes were elected as cheerleaders for the cominp: year.. These officers will spend the remainder of this year becoming becom-ing a'()iiainted with their duties, so that when they take office in September, they will be qualified quali-fied to do a good job. The present officers are as follows: Allen Davis, president; Martha Sue Chaniberlin, vice president; " Dorothy WaUiii, secretary; sec-retary; and Peggy Moss, Nancy Smith, and Jeanne NVff, clieer- icaders. A Valentine party was held in te East Mill Creek ward last Tuesday, sponsored by the Mu-tuals Mu-tuals of East Mill Creek and E-v ergreen wards. The hall was appropriately decorated with hearts and cupids, and more than 200 young peopie were out to enjoy the dancing, games and refreshments. Many people will be interested to know that a former resident of East Mill Creek, Reed Keller, has recently been made bishop of the L. D. S. ward in Napa, Calif. Reed is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilmot Keller, 3540 South 22nd East. Before moving to California, Reed served in many capacities in the East Mill Creek ward, at one time being a member of the ward bishopric. The Olympus Junior High recently re-cently completed a two week's yearbook sales campaign. Almost Al-most 400 books were sold, with the girls outnumbering the boys slightly in the number cf books bought. Home room 7, whose adviser' is Mrs. Rapp, won the-home the-home room contest with the greatest percentage of books being be-ing bought" from their room. On a quota basis, the eighth graders proved themselves as having the most school spirit as shown by the number of books bought. Top salesmen of the yearbooks were Sidney Lambourne, Sydney Heg-sted, Heg-sted, Jay Clarke, ' and Ginger Bernards. A large banquet is being planned for the young people of East Mill Creek ward to be held on Thursday, Feb. 20. The theme will be based on Washington's Wash-ington's birthday and special honor will be paid to the M-Men and Senior .Scouts who have been playing basketball this season. sea-son. An excellent program is being planned for the occasion, with hilarity being the keynote. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Bagley are in charge of the banquet. The monthly East Mill Creek Dance club dance was held on Friday, Feb. 7, with Mr. and Mrs. Jack P. Clark acting as hbst and hostess. The theme of the dance was Valentine. As usual a capacity crowd was there. A fireside for the M-Men and Gleaners of East Mill Creek and Evergreen wards will be held at the home of Bishop and Mrs. Erickson this coming Sunday, starting at 8:30 p.m. Ali members mem-bers of these two wards who are of M-Men and Gleaner age are invited to attend. |
