Show Centennial Happenings ' The Utah Symphony orchestra, orches-tra, under the direction of Werner Wer-ner Jans-en, will appear for matinee mat-inee and evening concerts in five cities in the southern part of Utah, it. was announced by Gus 1'. Packman, Centennial director. di-rector. The first appearance will be at i Ephraim on March 10. The following fol-lowing dav the orchestra will ; be at Richrield, on the 12th at Cetlar City, the 13th at St. George, and the Mth at Beaver. J It was also announced that a concert will be played at Ogden March 10. The inaugural concerts of the Centennial tour were held before be-fore an enthusiastic crowd at TIeber City Last week and these were followed by successful appearances ap-pearances at Logan and Vernal. National publicity has already been accorded the orchestra because be-cause of the unusual features of the tour. Lowell Thomas, noted commentator, devoted several minutes of his broadcast on Jan. 20 to the tour. Never before has such a large and well known musical organization been enabled en-abled to appear in such small centers of population. The admission to the concerts will be at popular prices. All tickets for the evening concerts, con-certs, for both adults and children, chil-dren, will be $1.20 including tax. This is just one-third of the $3.60 price charged for the same concert con-cert in the Salt Lake Tabernacle. At the children's matinee the admission wall' be 25c for children chil-dren and $1.20 for adults. ( Four New York stage hits have started on a tour of Utah as part of the Centennial Commission's Com-mission's plan to bring high class entertainment to every part of the state. Two of the plays are being produced hy the Brig-ham Brig-ham Young University Players, one by the Utah .Agricultural College Players and one by the University Theater Players from Salt Lake. The Brigham Young Players will do "Dear Ruth" and "Peg O My Heart" and the Utah Aggie Ag-gie Players will present "Angel Street," better known to movie goers as "Gaslight," the cinema that starred Charles Boyer and ingrid Bergman. The University Univer-sity Players will present the howlingly funny fantasy, "But Not Goodbye." On Jan. 25 the Brigham Young Players presented "Dear Ruth" and "Peg O My Heart" at Loa and Salina arid the University Players of Salt Lake did "But Not Goodbye" at Beaver last Friday night and at Monroe on Saturday night. This Friday night "But Not Goodbye" will be presented at Loa for both mat-1 inee and evening performances. "Angel Street" will appear at Loa on March 21. A play, not yet named, will play in Garland this 'Friday night. |
