VetPosts Hold Installations Joint installation for the Sugar House VFW Post 3586 and its auxiliary was held at the Post Home, 2920 Highland Dr., on A-p- ril 25th. at 8:00 p.m. Arnold W.Bradshaw, Past Utah State Dept. Commander, installed the following: Wallace J. Anderson, commander; Mark R. Critchfield, senior vice commander; Paul Wil-kes, junior vice commander; Mark Hafey, quartermaster; Jack Haf-ne- r, chaplain; Ben Russo, surgeon; Harry B. Miller, judge advocate; and James J. Maxfield, three-ye- ar trustee. Hilma Dowling, VFW State Dep-artment Auxiliary president was present to install the following auxiliary officers: Mrs. Fred Handsaker, president; Mrs. Dewey Stewart, senior vice president; Mrs. James J. Maxfield, junior vice president; Mrs. Arnold W. Bradshaw, treasurer; Mrs. Chas. A. Lund, secretary; Mrs. Ernest Ferguson, chaplain; Mrs. Wm. C. Clawson, conductress; Mrs. E.L. Ross.guard; and Mrs. Vern Year-sle- y, three-ye- ar trustee. Distinguished guests present were State Dept. Commander Ray Lester; State Senior Vice Com-mander Don Pearce; Lyle Klotz, service officer for the Dept. of Utah; and Chief of Staff Harold Paxman. National Council Woman Mrs. Harold Paxman visited the auxiliary. Retiring Commander Harry B. Miller and past president Mrs. Vern Yearsley were recipients of a gavel and past-preside- nt's pin, respectively. Among the activities of the group is the bowling on the first Thursday of each month when the Post entertains patients from the Fort Douglas Veterans ' Admin-istration Hospital, assisted by the members of the regular Veterans Bowling League. JAYCEE ECONOMY RUN Plaudits to the teen-age- rs from Granite, Highland, and Olympus high schools and the organizers of the Economy R,un. These jaded eyes had a thrill Saturday morning at Murray Park as the participants came in off the run. Co --organizers for the event were the Sugar House Jaycees, Utah State Highway Patrol, Utah State Automobile As-sociation, and the General Petrol-eum. Corp. Olympus High School swept the meet with a ton-milea- ge total of 49.53. Robert Carter, 17, 1757 Mountain View Dr., won the ind-ividual honors for Olympus; Del Gillard,17, 2705 Yuma St., ior Highland; and Edwin E. Burke; 17, 3222-7t- h East, for Granite! Assisting Mr. Robt. L. Monson, chairman of the event, in presenting the awards were Clayton E. Nelson, district sales representative for General Petroleum; Steve Zoumandakias, Utah State Automobile Assn.; Rob-ert Hayward, Utah State Highway Patrol; and L. L. Moench of the Jaycees. Entrants were checked in and out from Earl's Mobil Service Station, 5305 So. State, Murray, and followed a route logged by the AAA and checked at strateg-ic intervals by the Highway Patrol. Each car carried an observer who deducted 110 mile for each in-fraction of safety rules. The route circled from Earl's Station through Heber and back through Orem.
