Let us look at two examples of modern freedom in the progressive pro-gressive America of today. Two weeks ago, after having looked for several ( months for land in Davis County on which to build a house, an individual was successful in finding a landowner land-owner willing to sell a couple of acres. A price satisfactory to both parties was agreed upon and right-of-way into the property was discussed. The prospective buyer envisioned a little rustic country lane, built and maintained by himself, him-self, leading to his home. , The purchase was never made. Why? Because a Planning Board with no constitutional authority to even exist said a house could not be built there unless a hard-surfaced, hard-surfaced, curbed and guttered road was constructed. Thus the buyer would be forced to spend his money for something he didn't want even if he could afford it. Another example, also in Davis County. A farmer owning rather large acreage, and having owned it for many years, applied for a permit to build a house for his; married son. The planning board (a different one than the one mentioned men-tioned above" informed him that-his that-his land had recently been zoned for light industry and homes could no longer be built there, so the son's home was built elsewhere. What has happened to the land of the free and the home of the brave? Truly we have bee asleep to let our country degenerate to the point where busy-bodies and meddlers tell us how our lives should be run. Cont. next col. |
