Show County Firemen Battle Flames ' Of 2 6 Fires In Three Days The Salt Lake County Fire Department has continued to be extremely busy during the past week as the hot weather and tinder dry weeds and grass have been ignited from various couses. , During the three day period of Saturday, Sunday and Monday Mon-day the department answered a total of 26 fire calls. Most of them were fires in weeds and dry grass, many of them started start-ed from trash or weed burning operations that were neglected or which got out of hand. Of the 12 calls on Saturday, July 12, one was a fire of larger larg-er proportions resulting in complete destruction of a storage stor-age shed containing building materials, the loss estimated at $1500. Owner of the property pro-perty was Dan Mertin, 1945 E. 4500 S. According to County Fire Chief Frank P. Jones the shed caught fire from a bon fire which had been left unattended. unattend-ed. The flames spread during the night through the grass and weeds to the building which was almost completely destroyed destroy-ed before the fire was discovered. discover-ed. When firemen arrived, after receiving the call at 2:04 a.m. the building had collapsed and had been almost consumed. |
