September 12. 1957 South East Independent Utah, Calif., Oregon and Washing-ton, some suggestions for good party organization, and stressed the need to make party stands apparent to all so there would be no confusion as to aims. Young Demos Hear Morse Utah representatives of the Utah Young Democrats just returned from a trip to Portland, Oregon where they helped plan party plat-Turr- n planks and listened to Ore-gon's Senator Wayne R. Morse (D), tell why he refused to vote on the hot civil rights bill. i Mr. and Mrs. Allan Howe, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Mitchell and Leon Ward, heard Sen. Morse explain that "the bill was too watered-dow- n to do any good," and that he abstained from voting, hoping another bill would come along. Sen. Morse also gave the as-sembly, which represented Idaho, Furniture Mart (Continued from front page) A basement and three floors, to-taling 35,000 square feet, will be ready for occupancy and opened to the public shortly after October 1, according to Henry Richards. Shipments are already being made from the south end of the building which houses the new shipping de-partment. The drapery and carpet depart-wil- l have the nicest carpet depart-ment and selection of items any-where around here," he told the Independent. The new second floor will be used to display bedrooms, dining room and other "case" or "suite" furniture. The entire third floor will be used for warehousing. Scheduled for completion by aut-umn, Mr. Richards said, are sev-eral remodeling projects. These include a new stone front on the old building, moving the credit department to the space formerly occupied by the shipping depart-ment, with appropriate decoration and redecoration of the entire main floor. The remodeling job has also in-cluded a public service to shop-pers in the whole area as the Rich-ards have added public rest rooms which will occupy a large area in the basement of the new addition. This has been a long-talke- d of fea-ture for Sugar House and has at ! last become a reality. Curtice Predicts Successful Sports Season at U "If the first two days of prac-tice are an indication, then this squad is the best conditioned, highest spirited I've had since co-ming to Utah," University of Utah head coach, Jack Curtice said Tuesday. "We've got good depth in all spots, except center and end, and although the boys are not big they have good speed and agility I look for a good season." Like the rest of the clubs in the Skyline the Utes are holding two-a-da- y practices with the morn-ing session getting underway at 10 a.m. and the afternoon session at 3:30 p.m. Curtice has stated that he will throw the ball a great deal more this year with about equal distribution between running and passing plays. The key to the Ute's 1957 success may well hinge on the ability of Curtice's quarter-backs to fling the pigskin. Lee Grosscup, Wally Suba, Pete Haun, Ken Vierra and Terry Nofsinger are the prospective signal callers. Grosscup, Suba and Haun seem to be the top prospects at present but sophomores Vierra and Nof-singer could make the older hands hustle. TIME TO FIX-U- P FOR FALL...
