Show Opera Season In Salt Lake Gets Under Way Utah Symphony Week opened last Saturday with the biggest season in Utah's musical history anticipated. Helen Traubel, hailed as the "world's greatest soprano today" was the guest artist with the symphony for the inaugural. Maurice Abravanel is back for his fourth season and has enlarged the orchestra to 85 pieces for the coming series. The array of stars is the most brilliant ever. In addition to the nine concerts con-certs in Salt Lake City, nine touring- concerts already have been scheduled and more will be arranged later. The concerts on the tour slate include: Cedar City, November 9; Richfield, November 10: Logan, Lo-gan, November 20; Clearfield, November 25; Ogden, January 4; Ogden, February 1, Rexburg, Idaho, February 11; Provo, February Feb-ruary 22 and Ogden, March 1. Many fans from around the state are purchasing season tickets tick-ets this season at the low prices and then sharing the tickets, taking turns in making trips to Salt Lake for the concerts. Here is the 1950-51 program scheduled at the Tabernacle in Salt Lake City: November 18 Grant Johannesen, pianist; December De-cember 9 Vladimir Horowitz, pianist; December 27 Tibor Zelig, violinist; January 10 All orchestra; January 24 Gregor Piatigorsky, cellist; February 7 Alexander Uninsky, pianist; February 21 Ricardo Odnopos-off, Odnopos-off, violinist; March 7 all orchestra. |
