Show Work Resumed At Union High After Winter Layoff Construction of Union high school was resumed Tuesday, and beginning Monday, work will get underway in earnest, foreman Dave Adamson said Wednesday, The rest of this week will be spent principally in organizing the work. A crew of from 50 to 60 will be assembled shortly to work throughout tha spring and summer to get sections "A" and "C" ready by fall, as promised. Last fall construction of the school was about 60 days ahead of schedule, but this winter about a month of possible working work-ing days were lost because of the severe weather. Mr. Adamson said about 85 of the foundation is already in, and that the foundation for the gym will probably be laid Friday, Fri-day, March 24, and the foundation founda-tion for the boiler room, the following Wednesday. Present plans are to start laying brick on section "C", Monday. Most of the heavy equipment was supposed to arrive in town today. "The footings to Union high," Mr. Adamson added, "are the heaviest I have ever seen for a building of this size. They should last almost indefinitely." 111 Leland Stevenson, who was awarded the plumbing, heating, and ventilating contract, said he will begin full-scale work next Monday with a crew of 6 to 8 men. The first job at hand will be to hoist the school's two boilers over the foundations and into the boiler room, located net', th " center of the building. He, too, will spend the balance bal-ance of this week organizing his work. 111 W. Russel Todd, chairman of the Union high school board, said Tuesday that action on naming a principal for the school has been postponed until April 5, when the board next meets. So far five applications for the job have been received. |
