Show RIIS Taxidermy Club Expects To ; Continue Work Through Summer ; The taxidermy club of Roosevelt Roos-evelt high school, sponsored by the RHS biology department, expects ex-pects to continue its work during dur-ing the summer months. Taught by Merlin L. Kill-pack, Kill-pack, and composed of members Albert Colotzi, Ford Larsen, Allen Gines, Ray Labrum, Keith Nielson, Bruce Jensen, Glen Bair, Keith Winterton, Dean Pond, Ferris Timothy, and Dick Wardell, the club was organized to acquaint students with their state and federal game laws, I give them an opportunity to I become familiar with the bene- j ficial animal life so that they may help others to protect it, and encourage the protection of game by taking fewer specimens speci-mens and preserving their beauty beau-ty through taxidermy. During the school year meetings meet-ings were held each Thursday night, with lessons conducted in the study of game laws, the making and preserving of bird and animal skins for scientific study and their mounting into a life-like form, and the recognition recog-nition of beneficial and harmful hawks. Trips were made to give firsthand first-hand knowledge of birds and animals and to collect specimens for mounting. To stimulate interest in the club's work, a contest was -held during the year, prizes going to Ford Larsen, who presented the best mounted small mammal, mam-mal, a squirrel; Dick Wardell, the best mounted bird, a crow; and Keith Nielson, the best i skin study, that of an English sparrow. |
