Show Over BO Morses Mekdy To At -First Western Stops' Race Peei Horsemen From Four States Attracted By Two-Day Local Racing Celebration; Store Closing Requested Eighty to 100 horses, 30 local, will represent the Roosevelt area and Colorado, Arizona, Idaho, Ida-ho, Nevada, Southern Utah, and Salt Lake City, Friday and Saturday, Sat-urday, June 9-10, at Roosevelt's first Western Slope race meet, according to Moqn Mullins, Racing Association publicity chairman. Mr. Mullins said the Racing Association is expecting the support sup-port of all Basin people, and looking forward to one of the finest meets ever held in Roosevelt. Roos-evelt. Prize money the first day will be $100 per race, with $50 to win, $30 place, and $20 show. Purses Saturday will depend on Friday's gate receipts. Post time both days will be 2 p. m., and there will be eight races daily, 'over stretches of from one-quarter to three-quarter miles. Calf-roping events will fill the time between races. Other attractions for the two days will be a carnival and nightly dancing. danc-ing. Mayor Homer P. Edwards has requested that local business houses close Friday and Satur- day from 1 to 3 p. m. for the race meet. Local owners who have entered en-tered horses in the meet are Les and Moon Mullins, Roosevelt; Roos-evelt; Marion Harrison, Mel Pearson, Neola; Ole Rasmussen, Ballard; Carl Allen, Vernal; and Lynn Nelson, Duchesne. A total of forty-two horses; have been registered for Friday's Fri-day's races. |
