Show Auto Dealer Ranks Decline By 100 During Past Year Utah has approximately 100 fewer automobile dealers this year than last, it was reported today by the Utah State Tax commission. According to Commission Chairman Patrick Healy, Jr., 498 motor vehicle dealers hold licenses,- selling either new or used cars, or both. Each of these dealers is under a $5,000 bond, which protects the public from "fraud" or "fraudulent representation." repre-sentation." Seven hundred eighty - two salesmen also have been licensed, li-censed, who may sell for licensed li-censed dealers only and may not make independent deals. Automobile Auto-mobile salesmen, are under $1,000 bond, to protect the public pub-lic against fraudulent representation represen-tation by the salesman-thus both the dealer and his salesmen are responsible for any statements state-ments made in the sale of a motor vehicle. All bonded dealers must have their licenses prominently dis- played at their place of business, and they must have a place of business and not be ' curb stone brokers. Field inspectors are used to check licenses and bonds, and to investigate reports of illegal and fraudulent transactions.
