Show District Federated Women's Clubs Convention Draws Noted Speakers Honored guests at the ninth annual spring convention of the Uintah Basin District of Federated Fed-erated Women's Clubs of Utah, held Thursday, April 20, at Ft. Duchesne and Roosevelt, were Mrs. Lloyd L. Cullimore, of Provo, State International Relations Rela-tions chairwoman and a member mem-ber of the last state legislature, who was principal speaker at the luncheon meeting1; Mrs. O. Jay Kingston, of Murray, president presi-dent of the Federated Women's Clubs of Utah; and Mrs. A. C. Lambert, of Salt Lake City, State Peace chairwoman, and chairwoman of the Bond Savings Sav-ings Drive. A new slate of district officers was elected and installed, composed com-posed of Mrs. Roy Showalter, Vernal, president; Mrs. Lon A. Logan, Ft. Duchesne, first vice-president; vice-president; Mrs. W. H. Howard, Vernal, second vice-president; Mrs. Stanley King, Vernal, third vice-president; Mrs. Dick Bastian, Roosevelt, recording secretary; and Mrs. George Mil-licam. Mil-licam. Vernal, corresponding secretary. The convention got underway with a tea from 3 to 5 p. m. at the Ft. Duchesne Women's club house in Ft. Duchesne, with members of that club in charge. Mrs, Cullimore gave an extemporaneous ex-temporaneous .speech, dealing , briefly with the state legislature and its functions, and with child psychology. Other speakers included in-cluded Mrs. Kingston, who discussed dis-cussed the interests and projects pro-jects of the federation, and Mrs. Grant G. Bryan, of Salt Lake City, chairwoman of the junior clubs, who - talked briefly regarding re-garding their formation and purpose. pur-pose. The evening session was held at the Frontier Grill, where a banquet was served to 104 members mem-bers and guests. The eight Uintah Uin-tah Basin clubs were represented: represent-ed: Cultural Arts, Senior Current Cur-rent Topics, Current Topics, Utopia, and Progressive Arts clubs, of Vernal; the - Ft. Duchesne Du-chesne Women's club; and the Junior Culture and Socialette clubs, of Roosevelt. Principal speaker of the ve-nine ve-nine was Marlin Bateman, of Salt Lake City, Utah Power and Light Co. representative, who discussed Americanism and showed a movie, "Of This We Are Proud." His talk and the show compared the standard of living in the United States with that of foreign nations, and emphasized em-phasized the advantages of competitive com-petitive enterprise as compared with the planned and controlled economy of totalitarian and socialistic so-cialistic states.
