Show Roosevelt High Most To Record Activities Bays Celebration Spectators Overflow Numerous Contest Halls; Participants Triple Last Year's Vernal Entry What RHS Principal Lawrell I Jensen describes as the largest Uintah Basin Acitvities Days of all ended Friday with a record o f near-capacity crowds both days. The four contest halls RHS, Roosevelt elementary school, the American Legion hall, and Roosevelt Stake house were packed to capacity for most of the performances. Mr. Jensen said he was certainly cer-tainly surprised at the size of the crowds, as they surpassed even his most optimistic hopes. As for the number of contestants, con-testants, Mb. Jensen estimated that student participation this year tripled last year's activities at Vernal. Yet, with all the contests con-tests open to hundreds of students, stud-ents, the two-day schedule was carried out almost to perfection. The major points in the judg-. es criticisms in speech and music mus-ic are as follows: SPEECH the speech meet should be- held early enough in the school year that students may have an opportunity op-portunity to attend the state and regional meets. Adequate speech classes were highly stressed. MUSIC There should be better selection of solo material, ma-terial, and more stress on ensembles. en-sembles. The bands are too loud. Orchestras should be emphasized em-phasized more. Local singers; should take more lessons in speech.
