Show "Naw BiU About Yaaiar-Yaarf" 5 YEARS AGO Following an Easter program Sunday evening March 25, the Roosevelt Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints .was reorganized with Dr. R. Vernon Larson being sustained as the new bishop. Selected as counselors to Bishop Larson were Rulon And-erton And-erton and Dr. Vere H, Johnson, with Merlin Sullivan being retian-ed retian-ed as ward clerk. Of interest to sheepmen should be the following bit of news: A ewe sheep on the Mark Bleazard farm came up with quadruplets this spring after a previous record of 3 pairs of triplets and one set of twins. All survived Mrs. Parley Rawlings, drama teacher tea-cher at Alterra, left Thursday evening for Salt Lake City, accompanying ac-companying the' winning district debate team, Lela Bartlett and Lynn Nebeker, and the winning oration students, Douglas Phillips and Lorna Searle who will enter the' state contests. All were winners win-ners at district contest held at Carbon College, Price last week. The P. E. Russon residence was the scene' of a family dinner Sunday Sun-day afternoon, Marcht 25, when Mr. Russon was honored on his 50th birthday anniversary. The occasion oc-casion also honored Keith Russon, who has received his call to enter the Air Force- on April 1. It TEAKS AGO In recognition of his outstanding accomplishments in Boy Scout work, Willard A. Day, Duchesne county commissioner and Roosevelt Roose-velt business man was honored on March 23 by having the Silver Beaver award conferred upon him. Only four men within a Boy Scout council receive this recognition during the year. Joyleen Curtis of TridelL a student stu-dent at the Alterra High School, was judged the district winner in the annual American Legion speech contest held in Roosevelt Saturday, March 23. The month of March began in the Harold Dillman home with a birthday party complimenting Dor-thv Dor-thv .lean Dillman and her friend Maurine Ivory, who are nine year old "twins." Mrs. J. O. Orser is spending her vacation in San Francisco visiting friends and relatives. 20 YEARS AGO Some weeks ago the Roosevelt Lions Club set up as a major project a new street lighting system sys-tem for the city of Roosevelt. At their luncheon they voted to equip one pole with the proposed light fixtures and paint it to be used as a demonstrator. Monday of this week the pole was completed' and already many compliments have been made. Work on completing the project will start in earnest immediately. Mrs Viola Harmston made a trip to Mt. Pleasant to visit her sons who are attending Wasatch Academy. Clarence L. Ashton of the Leslie Ashton & Sons Co., who has been in the hospital at Salt Lake. City following an operation, is improving improv-ing nicely and expects to be home about the first of April. Mrs. Florence Marimon from Whiterocks, was assisting at the Roosevelt State Bank this week, as was also Miss Dart of Myton. |
