Show Speaking Contest St. Louis, Mo., Feb. 18, 1930-Future Farmers of America, an organization or-ganization of 75,000 farm boys enrolled en-rolled as students of vocational agriculture, ag-riculture, is sponsoring the first annual an-nual National Public Speaking Contest Con-test which will be held during the F. F. A. Congress in Kansas City during November of this year. Four young orators representing the North Atlantic, Central, Southern, Sou-thern, and Western regions will compete for $1,100, the first prize being $500. The money for these prizes and expenses of the four con-, testants to Kansas City will be Contributed by Senator Arthur Capper" of Kansas thru the Capper Farm Press. The national contest will be supervised by C. H. -Lane, Chief of the Federal Agricultural Education Service, and John F. Case, editor Missouri Ruralist, representing rep-resenting Senator Capper. Elimination contests will first be held in all states where the Future Farmers of America have organizations. organiz-ations. Winning orators will be sent to regional contests which must be held not later than October 15, 1930. Contestants are allowed to select their own subjects but the subject must relate to agriculture. More than 1,500 delegates representing repre-senting the state associations of Future Farmbers are expected to attend the 1930 Congress and to listen to the Public Speaking contest con-test which will be broadcast over the nation wide hookup of radio stations. The elimination contest for the eleven Western States will be held at Phoenix, Arizona, during the week of May 5. Utah will have district and state tryouts and send the winner to Phoenix. |
