Show Cost Of Education At The U. Of U. The average ttudent at the University Uni-versity of Utah pays only $227 a year for his education $182 a year less than the average student outlay at state supported colleges m the United States, a statistical survey prepared for President Geo. Thomas of the university Dy Dr. Dilworth Walker of the school of business, shows. The tabulation, made from the Uinted States Department of Interior In-terior reports covering representative representa-tive state supported colleges and universities in aU parts of tht United States, reveals that the cost per student ranges from $'.,-957 $'.,-957 at the Connecticut Agricultural Agricultur-al college to $217 at the University Univer-sity of South Carolina. Utah with $227 is next lowest, and Utah State Agricultural . college is fifth lowest with $245. That the cost of education at the state university is lower now than at any time since 1912 two years excepted 1920-21 and 1922-t' 1922-t' ,s brought out in a special tabulation of costs over a twenty year period. An estimate by Dr Walker and his committee, based on statistical date, places the average aver-age for the current school year at $194, or $14 less than the previous olmark ? 1922'23 whetl was $208 per student per year. v. lnoo912"13 studer"ts contributed but 3.2 per cent of. the total university uni-versity income as compared with the 33.5 per cent of 1931-32 and the 36.2 per cent of the present year, the chart shows. This may be accounted for somewhat in the astounding increase in enrollment ;m,761 resident students of 1912-13 to the 3,592 of the year 1931-32, according to Dr. Walker Dr. Walker was aided in his survey sur-vey by Dr. John Nuttall, Dr L L Dames, Dr. Thomas B. Brighton' and Dr. Sherman B. Neff of tl-p University of Utah, and Dr E A Jacobsen of the Utah Agricultural college. In addition to supplying President Thomas with the statistics, statis-tics, the committee also tendered Governor George H. Dern and President Greenwood of the Utah Educational association special information in-formation about the cost of higher education in Utah. |
