Show Leader Recommends 4-H ! Program For Winter j By Myrtle Davidson Assistant State Club Leader Four-H club work has prepared 5800 Utah members for service during the past year, with Its home economic and agricultural projects, its literature, music appreciation, ap-preciation, recreation, educational and observational studies. Four-H spells service to home and community com-munity as well as self. It teaches home and farm cooperation, self management, personal development, develop-ment, and assists in the choice of a vocation. Much of the technical training is given to the club member during dur-ing the summer season; however, winter months provide an opportunity oppor-tunity to apply the information gained through the 4-H clubs. Crop club members may carefully plan the details of their project, which includes selection and testing of seed. Livestock club members may be active in record keeping for a 12 month year; also, other problems prob-lems pertaining to their project may be discussed. Every girl enrolled may either remodel or construct a new garment gar-ment during the winter, which gives an cxullent opportunity to utilize her la owledge of hcalthf U clothing: proper selection of new cloth or material on hand; care cf clothing to obtain the great e.-t service, and the principle of wise expenditure of her proportion of the family Income. Food members may study the needs and demands of the family; the quality and quantity most satisfying sat-isfying and healthful; the results of storage, and the possibilities of contributing more toward the food supply during the summer months. The lunch box may be adopted p.s a personal responsibility; also, the plijinlng, preparing, and serving of week-end meals and food costs. Practical, inexpensive toys for birthdays and ChrlHtmas may be made as application of 4-H knowledge. knowl-edge. As groups under the direction of local leadership, such cooperative and cultural activities as the following fol-lowing might be worked into the program for several winter meetings meet-ings and create an organization consciousness for boys and girls: Act as leaders or sponsors for a civic activity; act as leaders or members for recreational, church, or school proRrams in an effort for wholesome entertainment at little or no cost; construct toys and clothing for less fortunate children; chil-dren; add cheer with sonKS. vIhILs, and baskets to af;ed or sick; demonstrate de-monstrate to groups of men or women; wo-men; meet for a report of a good book; attempt wholesome entertainment enter-tainment by members at little cost to raise money for the next club reason; entertain umall children while parents attend classes. |
