Show Ten Cents On The Dollar Is No Settlement The allied nations won the war on American money. After peace was made, England, France and Japan divided among themselves parts of Asia and Africa, and France and England also gained political control over some territories territor-ies in central Europe. The United States, true to the high purpose with which she entered the war, asked for nothing in the way of s p o i Is or reparations a n d got nothing. All this nation has ever asked is for the repayment of the money loaned to Europe, and that on whatever basis is convenient to Europe. And all the schemes and plots and maneuvers which rich Europe 300,000,000 people live and work and produce there may devise in an attempt to fool the United States into believing that it is unable to pay cannot convince con-vince the informed American that such is the case. The only possible circumstances in which the United States could consent honorably to a compromise compro-mise on debt payment would be in return for promises from Europe , that she would rid herself of her great disarmament burden, that ' she would make some tangible ef-, ef-, fort toward reviving international trade by scaling down her preposterous prepos-terous and vindictive tariff schedules, sched-ules, and that she would bend her energies sincerely toward the job of restoring peace and prosperity. But even if this were done there would be no obligation on the part of the United States to give away what rightfully belongs to its people. peo-ple. Europe never would have made as much headway in its plans as it has had it not been for the aid given it in this country by a few Eastern internationalists whose own private money is tied up with the public debt settlement, and who. therefore, have urged the allied al-lied nations to press their case while at the same time they have through their agencies of propaganda propa-ganda tried to spread the idea that somehow magnanimity on the part of the United States in this matter will speed up the return of prosperity.
