The best way to reduce, so the emi aen. authorities tell us. Is not by starving oneself, or taking some ad vertised cure, but a sane and reason able diet. Sweets should be very sparingly eaten; other foods of kinds that one likes, eaten, but much less in quantity. Reducing an individual in-dividual problem; it takes self control, con-trol, perseverance and its success depends de-pends as it does on all things, if you want it enough to pay the pnee. There are many instances of younQ women who have so starved themselves them-selves to keep a boyish figure tha when any sudden drain like cold, flu or pneumonia attacks them they have not reserve to resist the disease and have lost their lives in consequence. To have a healthy body, full ot en-er-y and able to do one's share in the world's work, is much more important than contours. It is sad that we must lose health In order to appreciate it. Youth cannot can-not seem to learn from advice or ex.imple; it must prove ail things in its own way. in these days of many automobiles we are losing one of the most im portant exercises for health the long walks that the past generation thought so valuable. Where do we find, even among the golf players, those who can walk six to twelve miles without fatigue? .The housewife will say that she walks it in her household duties, but that exercise is not like a swinging swing-ing walk in the pure sunshine, which rejuvenates every cell of the body. Proper sleep is as important as food and exercise, for health. Some individuals indi-viduals need less, but the majority should have at least seven out of the twenty-four for sound restful sleep. The children in homes whore care is given to food, sleep and exercise, are able to ward off most diseases or have them very lightly. Good Eatables. The loss of appetite is often occasioned occa-sioned by monotony in food. There is excuse for the sameness in meals where there is poverty pov-erty ; but even then, one may feed a family well, if there is sufficient money to bay j plain food and the marketing Is done wisely and with greatest care. A cheap cut of meat from the neck of an animal has all the nutriment and more of the extractives than the liner cuts which are cooked quickly and are much more costly Brown the meat in a deep Iron kettle, turning until well seared on all sides, then add a small amount of wa ter and cook at low heat for hours, adding more water a tablespocnfnl at a time, seasoning with onion, or gar-lie gar-lie (one clove will add a delightful flavor), a pinch of cloves and salt and pepper to season. Thicken rite gravy and serve the meat with onions and baked potatoes; one will have a fine meal at very little cost, j We must gel hack to foods which have to be well masticated if the gen- edition now growing will fiavp good teeth.
