Show Greatest Industry The world's greatest industry is not agriculture, railroads, steel, oil. nor automobiles, according to E. F. Calkins, the noted advertising ejjpeit. He says it is housekeeping an activity ac-tivity that few would class as an industry in-dustry at all. But upon reflection it would appear that he is right, because housekeeping touches the daily routine of every ' person in the world. Yet, perhaps less thought is given to how this great industry should be carried on economically econ-omically and efficiently than is given to a dozen others which might be named. In other industries every effort is exhausted to find better ways of doing do-ing things; to save time and labor; to secure the best results with a minimum mini-mum of waste and lost motion. Even the farmer is becoming alert to adopt better machinery, and improved methods meth-ods generally in connection with his farming operations. Still, men who demand the latest and best of equipment for their farms offices and factories are often very slow in furnishing their homes with appliances which would lessen the housewife's labor and make her life more pleasant. It might be well to think of this the next time the good wife suggests the installation of some labor savin? device which would not only save her strength, but would be a real economy econ-omy in the long run. Our greatest industry should have more consideration. |
