Show 60VERHMEHT MAY SEIZE WHEAT CROP PLANS BEING LAID BY FOOD ADMINISTRATOR AD-MINISTRATOR FOR CONTROL OF WHEAT, FLOUR AND BREAD. All Speculation in Foodstuffs to Be Placed Under Ban, With Prosecution Certain for Those Holding Supplies Sup-plies Exceeding Business Needs. Washington Herbert C. Hoover, the food administrator, announced, on August 12, the plan for the control of wheat, flour and bread. They are specific and comprehensive. They have been worked out fully in view of the disrupting and disturbing conditions of the European war and the part this country still lias to play. They provide : X For (lie vigorous prosecution of all persons who hold more wheat and flour than is required in their normal business. 2 For the maintenance of a fall-price fall-price throughout the country, by seizing, seiz-ing, if necessary, the entire 1947 harvest har-vest and determining the cost to the consumer. 3 For food administration agencies at the principal wheat terminals throughout the country. 4 For the restriction of storage to thirty days unless special permit is srivpn hv the food administration. 5 For the elimination of speculation specula-tion by compelling all mills and elevators ele-vators with more than one hundred barrels daily capacity to take out a government license. . Effective September 1. The regulations will go into effect on September 4. Mr. Hoover believes that by rigid ap plication of the regulations the price of wheat can be stabilized throughout the year. With the price of wheat stabilized it is believed that the price of flour will conform and thus a stabilized price of bread will be maintained. |
