Show Company D Departs for Maneuver Camp Company D of the National Guard of Utah left early last Sunday morning morn-ing for Hole -Cry to it'.end the Annual Encampment of the Slate Militia, which is being held at that place. There were thirty-six men of the company who went from this city to participate in the maneuvers at(the camp. There are five companies of the ' State Militia and a detachment of artillery from Salt Lake together v, ith infantry from Fort Douglas. Must of the militiamen traveled by rail while some traveled overland trough Provo canyon. Others, in- eluding infantry from Fort Douglas ' went by way of Park City. Many of the guards have been seen i at different times in the various ! towns of the state prior to their de- parture for camp and have been the j subject of much admiration and : comment by the younger set. i TTpher is an ideal place for ma- j neuvering and the boys will enjoy a most pleasant outing. The ground f is heavily turfed, the drainage .is " good, there is plenty of pure water, and hills and canyons not far distant afford numberless ppportunities for all kinds of maneuvers and execution execu-tion of strategic problems. The boys of Company D cached camp at about 6 o'clock Sunday evening eve-ning and helped to swell the number of the camp to 1500 men. It was thought that when the local company compa-ny left this city that it was the small-est small-est one to go on the encampment, but it was learned that Company F of Manti did not number as many as D Company. The regular soldiers from Fort Douglas have their band with them and furnish music for all. On the 24th the whole body of soldiers and militiamen joined in the parade at Heber City and made a splendid showing for the state. The regulars lined up with the Heber City Base Ball team for a lively game. The little tents were pitched and the boys remained at that place overnight. Monday will be Governor's Day and every company will appear at its best. The, maneuvers will contin-' contin-' "r ' ue two more days and then they will return on Thursday the 31st. |
