Show SUGAR FACTORY MOVEMENT IS PROGRESSING A new clement has entered into tlie North Sanpete Sugar Factory proposition during wie week, and. although al-though the factory idea as a wholv. looks better than ever before, this new feature is proving somewhat disquieting dis-quieting to those who are at the lielm in the movement, in behalf of this section. The new element is a bid from Gunnison and nearby- territory for the factory. The people of Uiat section sec-tion have determined to have the big institution it possible and arc after it in dead earnest. The talk of skeptics about various uncertain features fea-tures connected with the proposition has been given little credence there and the farmers have gone ahead in a businesslike way in an attempt to secure the necessary acreage. The result has been they have the necessary neces-sary acreage contracted and they are using it with all possible weight. Locally the prospects are brighter than ever before. Mount Pleasant farmers have subscribed about U00 acres, with possibly 100 more in reserve. re-serve. Moroni, it is reported, is beginning be-ginning to take a different view of the proposition and a good acreage is expected from there, while Chester, Ches-ter, Spring City and Fairview are taking hold in an encouraging way. Those who are directing the campaign cam-paign here are very much encouraged over the outlook now, although, they would feel much better if the total acreage was double what it is. C. T. Prage, who is a leading spirit in the local endeavor to got. the factory, was called to Salt Lake yesterday yes-terday by (he promoters, who desired to discuss various features of the proposition pro-position with him. It is understood be will take up several points, about which some local people have expressed ex-pressed doubt, with the gentlemen representing the capital and of the business and get assurances, if possible, pos-sible, as to just what the intentions of the promoters are. ; If people of this section generally realized what a factory would mean to North Sanpete if erected any place near the. center of the district ther would be a general scramble, (o contract for the beets and to do anvthine else necessary to get. it. Many do appreciate hc value of such an institution, but apparently many do not. Liberal acreage contracts are necessary and ought to be more without delay. The farmers have everything to win and nothing to lose. |
