Show North Sanpete Folks Take Lead In 4-H Work A group of busy farmers and homemakers met at the Courthouse Court-house in Manti last Wednesday, night, March 23, and a county 4-H board was chosen, it was announced this week. Rudolph Hope, Spring City, was elected chairman; Norma H. Armstrong, Manti, secretary; and the following are acting board members: Mrs. Johannah Hafen, Mt. Pleasant; Mrs. Celia Bartholomew, Fayette; Mrs. Ven-netta Ven-netta Petersen, Centerfield; Orin Hansen, Centerfield, and Cljve Christensen, Mayfield. Other members will be added as leaders lead-ers are enrolled for 1949 programs. pro-grams. These seven people attended Club School at Logan. They are outstanding because .of their extreme ex-treme interest in 4-H possibilities possibili-ties for Sanpete boys and girls programs. It has been said, "If you want a good leader ask the busiest person in town." Mrs. Hafen works in the church, is president of her club, and is always found working on some community committee. She's always busy but never too occupied to help youth. Mrs. Bartholomew just returned re-turned from a mission in Hawaii. Ha-waii. She believes we should have more action in helping youth and less preaching (teach by doing is 4-H motto). She works in all church organizations. organiza-tions. Her ambition is to help the youth of her community achieve. Mrs. Petersen works in the youth organizations in the church. She has taught 4-H before be-fore and she's also encouraged a son to become an Eagle Scout. Her ambition is that every girl and boy in Centerfield belong to a 4-H Club. With parent help we're sure she'll make it. If so it would be the first community in the county to make such a record. Mrs. Armstrong works with the vnlith IpaHprchin anrl nthor i- - - - church activities. Her two active daughters keep her busy. Her theory is, "It isn't what you've got but what you do with what you've got that counts." This is Norma's fourth year in 4-H leadership. lead-ership. Mr. Christiansen is a stockman stock-man and he's always seen at a stock show with the youth of his community. Mr. Hope is a farmer and has plenty of work he should do but he wants to help Sanpete county by helping its youth. Orin Hansen is a young farmer. farm-er. He has belonged to 4-H and FFA. He's an Eagle Scout and is doing post-graduate work at Gunnison High. Even with this board, success is not possible unless they have the support of more good cooperative cooper-ative leaders and parents. They will come to every community com-munity and organize girls and boys from 10 to 20 years of age. The girls may enroll in Foods. Clothing or Home Furnishings. The boys may choose Beef, Gardening, Gar-dening, Dairying, and other agricultural ag-ricultural projects. When a group asks you to be a leader, don't says "No, I haven't time." Remember you Will be working with leaders of the next generation and their success or failure may depend on the help you give them now. "Three things come not back again the spoken word, the fleeting arrow, and the neglected opportunity." |
