Show Sarthe Is Half As Big As Sanpete Scan the rest of the paper hurriedly if you must, but whatever you do don't miss reading Elder John K. Olsen's fascinating report on the section of France where he is presently living. It appears on Page 3. John's report continues the series started last month with an article on Guatemala written by Elder Edwin M.G. Seely. Without discounting for a moment the abilities of these two young men to do a capable job whatever it is, we must admit to some surprise over how very talented they are at expressing themselves on paper. Perhaps right here we had better admit to more than a tinge of professional jealousy. One of the things that has given both reports added interest is the way John and Edwin have introduced the local touch. - You get the picture immediately, for instance, when John writes that "Sarthe is about half the size of Sanpete county." And in next week's installment, when he remarks that Paris is the most beautiful city in the world next to one. . . Salt Lake city. We've already expressed ourselves in a previous editorial edi-torial on why we think these reports from our young people who are abroad are very important. John put it this way in a letter which accompanied his observations on France: "I think this is a fine idea, having us write about the countries we are working in. Because if there's anything the world needs today, it's understanding between nations." And that's why we'd like to urge again those who are away from home abroad in the world to introduce the people they're living among to the folks at home. |
