Show Fairview Native Home From Jungles Of Nicaragua Virgil C. Peterson, a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Peterson of Fairview, who has spent the past three years in the jungles of Nicaragua, has returned to Utah and is now enrolled at Utah State Agricultural College completing requirements for a master of science degree. Mr. Peterson was graduated from the A. C. in 1938. He then began work on a master's degree de-gree in range management but interrupted it to join the Army Engineers. After five years in the army, he accepted a position with the United States Department of Agriculture Ag-riculture in its co-operative program pro-gram with Latin American countries. coun-tries. The three-fold purpose of the co-operative program is (1) A stable agricultural economy; (2) Developing new crops; (3) Developing a strategic corps for hemispheric defense. Mrs. Petersen's wife, Mrs. Connie Petersen, accompanied him to Central America. Mrs. Mary Jane Christensen, wife of N. P. Christensen, celebrated cele-brated her 76th birthday Sunday. Miss Iietta Briggs who has spent the past ten days with her mother, Mrs. Hannah Brigg; has returned back to her work at Ogden. Miss Glenda Cheney spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. ! and Mrs. A. L. Cheney. Mrs. Henry Rasmussen spent the weekend at Salt Lake with her daughter Alene Rasmussen. Miss Ann Lee Cox, who is attending at-tending the University of Utah, spent the weekend here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Evan Cox. Donald Stewart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francillo Stewart, who is working at the Granite Furniture Furni-ture company in Salt Lake city, spent last week in San Francisco at a furniture convention. Cleston Mower who has been working in California, spent the weekend with his family, and has now returned again to California. Cali-fornia. Weekend visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Rigby were Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Green and family and Mr. and Mrs. Theron Rigby. Advancement awards were presented to several Fairview Boy Scouts Sunday evening at the Fairview North ward by Mayor Keith Hansen and Scoutmaster Scout-master Irvin Orton. Those who received the awards were Dennis Hartley, Bert Vance, Roger Howell, Jerry Hansen,' LeGrand Christensen, Orin Ericksen. Other scouts received merit badges for individual indi-vidual awards. |
