Biological Survey reports that trappers under his supervision super-vision (killed 492 coyotes, six mountain lions and three bears jiom within the Manti Forest during the period May 1, to October Oc-tober 1, 1941. In addition, 67 coyotes were taken from the inortih end of tihe Forest in Utah couny which is not under his supervision. The open season for deer on the Manti Forest was held dux- ing very exasperating weather ior tut- hunters. Pleasant east, up Nortlh Creek, along Lie fork -to the north of LBuuf alo Peak to just inside the Forest Boundary ia Sec. 35, ' T. i4 S., R. o K This road leads to the point selected by the Bureau for drilling to tihe coking coal Aihich is in this vicinity. They expect to obtain a core-, eight inches in diameter. Several cattle owners have recently retreived lost cattle by O.ie identification of tlheir stock U.vrou.gt-.i Manti Forest cattle tags. The tag number, and inquiry through Forest Service officials, has determined the ownership o. the animals. These tags have proven very useful in many ways and have saved the owners own-ers consjdierable monetary loss in these instances. 2,000 three-year old lodgepole pine trees were planted recently recent-ly in the mouth of Boulger Canyon Can-yon near the Boulger Reservoir, it was originally intended to plant these trees in the head of Thistle Creek, but due to inaccessible inac-cessible roads it -was necessary to locate a new area. Lodge-pole Lodge-pole pine is not a native in this lection, its southern, limits toeinig along the headwaters of the Provo River. As there are some successful small plantings in ilphraim Canyon, it was tnought I'.iis tree iLi-ould thrive on the Manti Forest. Forest Supervisor J. W. Hium-ij'hrey, Hium-ij'hrey, who officially retires November No-vember 30, 1941, will sing his twa.-u song at a banquet and party to be given in his honor on November 29, 1941 in the Ephraim City Hall Auditorium.
