On larger western farms, the average ma be considerably higher. Even so, it is mrPi,t that this machine weais t not in proportion to use but in Sportion to time. In short, rust aP ld weather consume a large part o? the farmer's investment in this "'Accordingly, a regular dally schedule of lubrication with -good , ri ants .is of foremost impor-a impor-a nee. Last year, a survey by Agricultural Agri-cultural Engineers in New York revealed re-vealed the following to be the most common grain drill troubles: 1 Twisted fertilizer feed shaft 2 Broken castings in fertilizer box 3; Worn and poorly adjusted clutch 4 Broken feed gears ' Lubricate power-lift bearing daily. Use a good -chassis lubricant" lubri-cant" that will stick to the job. Pack thSreae,cup1S1IShe"' 4 the bearings on the furrow openers twice daily. Lubricate wheel bearings twice daily. yJ; HOW TO CHECK RATE OF DRILLING Check frequently to make sure the drill is putting out the amount of seed for which it is set. If the drill is not calibrated for the seed to be used, it can be estimated as follows: 1 Measure the circumference of one of the wheels; multiply by the width of the strip the drill sows and divide 43,560 the number of square feet in an acre by this number, to get the number of wheel revolutions necessary to sow an acre. 2 Measure the amount of seed the drill drops in making enough revolutions to cover J4 of an acre, and multiply by 4. By adjusting the feeders, the exact amount to be sown per acre can be determined. 5. fertilizer and feed ,1 ' out of alignment V 6. Incorrect mesh ot 4rht 7.
