Show Tuesday Last Day To Claim Terminal Leave Pay With less than one week remaining, re-maining, Utah State Department Depart-ment of Veterans Affairs' Director, Di-rector, Ed. T. O'Brien, reminds all Utah veterans of the August . 31, 194S deadline in which to apply for unused terminal leave pay. Mr. O'Brien pointed out that the last session of Congress amended the act to permit surviving sur-viving brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews of deceased former members of the armed forces to receive the benefit of Armed Forces Leave Bonds. Mr. O'Brien noted, however, that in those cases where the serviceman service-man died or was killed in action ac-tion before being discharged from the service, widows, next of kin and dependents would not qualify for this benefit, inasmuch in-asmuch as the six months gratuity pay of the serviceman was made in lieu of this benefit. bene-fit. Widows, next of kin, brothers, broth-ers, sisters and nieces and nephews of the deceased serviceman, serv-iceman, who died after discharge dis-charge from the service and before be-fore applying for and receiving his unused terminal leave pay, may make application, providing provid-ing it is done before August 31, 194S. Mr. O'Brien added that the applications for this benefit are being handled by all district dis-trict service offices of the Utah State Department of Veterans Affairs. It is roughly estimated that nearly three million dollars in benefits will expire on August Aug-ust 31, 1948. Mr. O'Brien stated that about 20.000 Utah G.I.'s. who have not yet made application, applica-tion, will stand to lose this much out of pocket money. |
