Show NlBandWins" Loving Cup In Tournament North Sanpete High School band, consisting of 29 pieces, returned from Price Sunday afternoon with colors flying, light hearts and a cheerful disposition. The local band won first honors in Class D during the Band ' Tournament held at Price Thursday, Friday and Saturday Satur-day of last week.- They were a-warded a-warded a beautiful loving cup. The bands were divided into four classes as follows: Class A Schools with 750 enrollment. en-rollment. Class B Schools with more than 250 enrollment. Class C Schools with less than 250 enrollment. Class D Schools with bands organized or-ganized one year, regardless of enrollment. There were. '27 bands entering the contest and 10 cups were a-warded a-warded to 7 bands, North Sanpete being one of the seven to receive' a cup. The contest . , was held in the tabernacle and each band marched onto the stage, played two numbers num-bers and then marched' off. One number was selected' and one number num-ber was assigned. The local band played the assigned number, "Lit-tie "Lit-tie Monster' Overture" and the selected se-lected . number, "One Beautiful Day.".' ... The contest was judged by Mr. De Lucia, 10 year soloist of Sousa's ' band, Clarence Hawkins of the W. of W. and Leopold Yost of Fort . Douglas. The awards were made Saturday, night. . - . ; Brian t " Jacobs, son of Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Jacobs of Mt. Pleasant, ' won first prize, in the SOusaphona solo contest and was awarded a "' gold medal. J " A record crowd witnessed ' the ..events of "the meet, with more '' . than 16,000 people attending the parade, on Saturday afternoon. " Throngs which' gathered . on Main street for the marching, ' crowded 7 several deep on both sides of the thoroughfare . for several blocks. Several hundred spectators were perched '. on bill boards, building tops, telephone poles and other advantageous spots. '.From the ' time the Hiawatha junior high band opened the parade pa-rade until Carbon ended the de-. de-. monstration, something new in the way of maneuvers was constantly being presented. . The bands marched in the following fol-lowing order: Hiawatha, Spring O'er., Latuda, Duchesne, Welling ton. Sn,nyside, Harding, Helper nnd SparMi Fork in the junior division: Appleton, North Sanpete, Ferron, Gland high of Moao, Delta, Del-ta, Paysor. Carbon second band. Palisade, Huntington, Provo, Central, Cen-tral, Tintic high of Eureka, Uin- . tah high of Vernal,' Fruitvale, Cyprus, Cy-prus, Springville and Carbon first . band. It has been two years since the local school has had a band and this is the first time the school has ever received a loving cup in baud contests. The local school is proud of their band. The personnel of the school band under the leadership of A. Bardell Larsen, is as follows: CLARINETS: Ned Ericksen, Arthur Ar-thur Smith, Don Anderson, - Rex Staker and Wesley Burnside. SAXOPHONE: William Peterson, Ralph Hafen, Ray Nielson, Boyd Tin pin and Reed Ruesch. TRUMPETS: O. V. Anderson, Jr., Spencer Covert, Ted Norman, Milton Mil-ton Wagstaff, Ferre Anderson, Ray Nielson, Delbert Miner and Kay Scovil. ' BARITONE: Aaron Jones. BASS HORN: Briant Jacobs and ' Jimmy Sorenson. MELAFHONE: Tom Brotherson and Phil Gunderson. TROMBONE: Howard Madsen and Dale Averett. DRUMS: Joseph Matson, Robert Nolan and David Wagstaff. DRUM MAJOR: Ross Anderson. |
