Show Forests Notes Fire October 4 to 10 is Fire Prevention Week. The suggestion has been made to cur Camp Superintendents and to all Rangers and other Forrest For-rest employes on the Manti Forest to make a careful check to see that even- possible fire hazard has ben eliminated. During the open season on deer, a number of fires are usually started by careless hunters hunt-ers who build a fire to warm themselves, go ctl and leave the fire and then see a big smoke behind be-hind them. This season we plan cn placing sufficient fire guards to apprehend all such hunters. Anyone Any-one cau?ht leaving fires in this way will be arrested and taken to the nearest Justice of the Peace; and they will very likely lose the first day's hunt. "A word to the wise is sufficient." Unfortunately,1 we have the five foolish as well as the live wise hunters, and we must plan to carefully watch the foolish individuals so ihat the least possible pos-sible damage will result from their visit to the Forest. We will appreciate appre-ciate the help of all hunters in stamping cut fires that may be found on all Forest lands as well as on adjacent private ranges. Grazing; Notes Many of the permitted sheep are r.ow leaving the Manti Forest. The lambs, while suffering during the early season from too much rain, will likely average up well with past seasons weights. Lamb purchasers are reported to be "welching" on some cf their early contracts, and prices are nearly near-ly a cent lower than those offered earlier in the season. Seven cents is being paid for wether lambs for delivery early this month. Most of cur ranges are looking well at the close of the grazing season. It seems almost unbelievable unbeliev-able hew much forage Is required tne last two weeks of the season for permitted stock. Ranges that appear ap-pear to have an abundance of forage for-age up until about September 20 seem to be pretty closely grazed by October 5 to 10. Cattle, according to most stockmen, stock-men, Vill leave the Forest this season in the best condition -they have been in in many years. At the present time few buyers for fat cattle have put in an appearance. The Manti Forest permittees have a lot of fat cattle of good grade fr sale this fall. GiTizinsr Survey Crew Transferred The Grazing Reconnaisance Crew that has been working on the central cen-tral part cf the Manti Forest during dur-ing the past season, under direction of Richard J. Costley, was transferred trans-ferred to the public domain for similar work on September 24. The boys returning to school worked until October 3 to complete some additional field work and a part of the crew will likely return this winter win-ter to compile the data collected Jurlng the field season.
