Show Deseret Branch Field D?.y Set For October 16-17 "Westward Ho!" will be the password pass-word for livestock men and others interested in the rehabilitation and j maintenance of the west desert 'range in Utah, when a caravan of cars will carry visitors from Milford October 16 at 8:30 a. m. to visit the experiments being conducted at the desert range branch station, by the intermountain forest and range experiment ex-periment station. The event will mark the first annual field day for the branch station and will be conducted two days, according to R. W. Bailey, director. "The purpose of this field day is to allow stockmen, range researchers, research-ers, botanists and others to view the results of experiments which have been carried on for the past four years to show how the depleted desert range lands can be brvught back to an economic carrying capacity ca-pacity and maintained through a program of constructive manage-1 manage-1 ment," Director Bailey explained. The committee in charge of the program, including Selar S. Hutch-ings, Hutch-ings, who has supervision of the b.-anch, and Dr. George Stewart, senior tecologist for the intenmoun- tain station, has arranged for 10 steps on the two-day tour. The, first three will be on the desert range between Milfcrd and headquarters head-quarters where present range conditions con-ditions will be studied and viewed. The other seven stops will be at the experimental area and on adjacent ad-jacent range country. On the evening of October 16, a general meeting will be hied at the station when eminent speakers will discuss range and livestock problems prob-lems and further details of the work being done at the desert station sta-tion will be explained, Director Bailey said. |
