Show Tax Reform Movement On At a meeting of local taxpayers held Monday night In the City Hall, a definite division occurred between be-tween two factions on the question of supporting the "tax strike" movement which has Leen gaining momentum in some sections of the state of late. The meeting was called call-ed and presided over by Mayor W. P. Winters, who led the group advocating ad-vocating non-payment until a more equitable system of taxation shall have been substituted for the "an-tequated "an-tequated and unfair" general property prop-erty tax. Among those who opposed the measures which were supported bv Mayor Winters and his followers were Daniel Rasmussen, Supt. A E. Jones, T. W. Jensen, and Q. W. Sorenson. Mayor Winters and J. Fred Sta- ker, Neils Rasmivsen, George O. Sorenson, Mourltz C. Peterson and Joseph Johansen were named as a delegation to attend the statewide state-wide ''taxpayeiu' meeting" which is being held In Salt Lake City this Friday and Saturday, They are going go-ing Into the state capital prepared to support a tax strike, pending reformation of the taxation system, syst-em, provided delegations from the stats as a whole decide to do the same. |
