Show Future Farmers of North Sanpete Return From Extended Trip to Southern California Cities 1 , ' . i : ' . . Young Men See the CoastCities From The Air The North Sanpete Future Farmers Farm-ers group of twenty-six returned! Saturday from t'ltir nine day trip to San Diego, tiied, sleepy and rather dirty, but unanimous in calling it a great trip. After short slops at our southern Canyons they visit(-d Boulder ram, where for three hours they inspected every prt to see whether or not the Six Companies had done a good job. The boys were interested lor more than one reason, in ging down, the cool air-conditioned elevator ele-vator to the power houses 500 feet below the surface of the dam. Here the men were busy installing the world's largest electric genera wr, 115,000 horsepower. Some idea of the size of the dam was given when the boys were told that there was concrete enough in the dam to build a 16 foot highway from Portland, Oregon to Miami, Florida. They next went to Pomona where the great Kellog Arabian horse farm was giving its regular Sunday afternoon show. There the horses, dogs and even the jacks seem to have the intelligence cf man. At Long Beach the usual great throng cn the shore was watching the big breakers come in. It was a treat sight for the lads from the mountains. The high tide with the big waves brought the water into several hot dog stands and other concessions along, the beach. Everybody enjoyed the giant racer, esecially the first time; but there was mo second ride for Chris Johansen (the Dad), nor Lottie Syndergaard (the Mother'-. Mother Syndergard "was not frightened but she about passed out," so she saj's. Anyway she was a good sport to try it oince. The most interesting event at Los Angeles was the visit to the five and a half million dollar City Hall, where they looked down upon the city from thr? 25th story (about 51.0 feet above Main Street:. Ail otj e buildings, even the skyscrapers sky-scrapers looked small. An aercplane was chartered for most of the afterniocn at San Diego ana all took a view of the city and harbor from 2000 feet above. Again Mother Syndergard was not to be cut done. After the ride she said it wasn't a tenth the thrill of the giant racer. Just the same Old Mother Earth pulls a little harder on the heart strings (or some other string) when hundreds of feet of air space begins to separate one fiom her. The boys visited the Exposition and after all too short a sleep on Balboa Park, willingly started the drive toward Mexico at the suggestion sugges-tion cf a policeman. In Mexico It is the people, not the scenery that isi interesting. The F. F. A. group were about to adopt or kidnap one youngster, and he wasn't a Senorita either. The 'whole party turned Jew and tried to make their few pennies buy half the trinkets in Tiajuania,. It was a lot of fun for old as well as young. |
