Show VSICIMGS EKE OUT 6-6 TIE -WITH OREM. TO POSTPONE AF GAME The game scheduled for Am. Fork Friday evening has bwn postponed according to A. J. Rogers, Principal. Coath Alger reported earlier in the week that 20 of the P.G. players were hit by flu, and the game has been postponed for that reason. Principal Rogers said that as of late Wednesday afternoon no definite plans had been set for the playing of the postponed gunre but that by next week the new date for the game will be set. It looked like the Alger Boys were beaten last Friday night, when the under-rated Orem Tigers scoied. six points in the second quarter and staved off all Vikings thrusts until the waning moments of the last and final stanza. It was only then that the 1955-56 Class B Champs mustered sufficient power to tie the score 6 to 6. When quarter-back Don Hales' point after touchdown kick failed, all hope for a Viking victory went down the drain. By their 6 to 6 tie the Golden Tigers, coached by former Viking Star Udell Westover, broke the skein of 25 straight football vie." ies earned by the Battle Creek boys over the past two-plus years. The teams were about as evenly matched as could be possible to imagine. Both sides made costly mistakes and players representing both schools showed flashes of football class, that if coordinated, could carry their teams to their Regional Region-al Crown and on to the state finals. No scoring blood was drawn in the first quarter and pretty much of the second. Allen of Pleasant Grove and Wright of Orem made some good gains, but no sustained sustain-ed drives were made by either team . Orem's second canto score came near the end of tile .prescribed 12 minutes of play, when Hales passrd and Wright intercepted and ran to the P. G. 18 yard line, for an Orem first and 10. Wright's pass was incomplete and Ferguson made nothing ion a line buck. On the third down, Wright passed to Brody over the goal line and it was Tigers 6 and Vikings 0. Orem's place kick for the one-pointer one-pointer was wide. Not much of any effect was done by either team until two minutes remained in the final quarter. On a fourth down, Wright kicked out of bounds and on the next play Alien carried to the Orem 38. Paul Gi'llman went for 3 and Hales made it a first and 10. Walker carried for 6, Danklef for one and Allen made it first and 10 on the Orem 15. On the next play Gillman sprinted sprint-ed to the Orem two-foot line, from which point Hales went over on a quarterback sneak. Hales extra point boot was outside the standards. Score Tigers, 6; Vikings, Vik-ings, 6. Three Orem plays later, the gun barked ending the game. |
