Show School Opens; Drivers Urged To Watch Out With the opening of schools Tuesday morning, Police Chief Glen Newman issued a plea and a warning to drivers of automobiles auto-mobiles to use extra caution, especially es-pecially during the hours when children are going to and from school. The need for better obedience to all traffic laws was revealed at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning when a woman was driving east on Center Street with a station wagon filled with small children. No doubt ithe woman wanted to get the children to school safely. Her safety desires were not coordinated co-ordinated with safe performance, however. She did not even slow down at the stop sign at First East. She drove right through the intersection without so much as a glance to right or left. A driver traveling north on First East had to brake his car almost to a Stop .to avoid hitting the station wagon. He shook his head in disgust. "Approaches to the schools will soon be radar patrolled," Chief Newman said. He also stated that if strict enforcement and stiff fines become necessary to protect pro-tect the children of Pleasant Grove, the police department and city court will proceed exactly along these lines. |
