Show Ray S. Merrill Resigns Principal's Position at Central School Ray S. Merrill, principal of the Pleasanet Grove Central School, for 18 years, has resigned his school position to head the Mac-millan Mac-millan Book Co. in its Utah, Idaho, and Montana territory, according to an announcement made by Superintendent Alma P. Burton. Mr. Merrill began his teaching career at Burley High School, .Pi ( . s - - ." i ' became principal of Central School in 1936. Mr. Merrill obtained his Master's Degree in Public School Administration Admin-istration from Stanford University in 1930. Mr. Merrill has also served as president of Alpine District Elementary Ele-mentary Principals, state president of elementary principals for two years, and U.E.A. president, second sec-ond vice-president, member of the board of trustees. He is a life member of the Elementary Principal's Princi-pal's Association, Utah Educational Education-al Association, and the National Educational Association. He is also a member of National Nation-al Society for Study of Education, National Association for Childhood Child-hood Education, International; Horace Mann League, American Association of School Administrators, Administrat-ors, American Council on Education, Educat-ion, Association for Supervision and Curiculum Development. His civic and church responsibilities responsib-ilities have been many. He is a charter member of the Pleasant Grove Lions Club, and has held many positions in that organiza-tion, organiza-tion, including president. In addition, addit-ion, he has been chairman of the city recreation committee, Red Cross, and polio drives. He has been president cf different differ-ent ward organizations, counselor to Bishop C. R. Clark for seven and one-half years, a member of tli:; Timpanogos Stake High Council Coun-cil and second counselor to President Presi-dent Merrill N. Warnick of Timpanogos Timp-anogos Stake. At present, he is stake superintendent of Sunday Schools. In a statement made by Superintendent Super-intendent Burton, he said, "We feel that Mr. Merrill is one of our very RAY S. He taught for one year at Laupahoehoe, Hawaii, and then came to Utah where he taught at West Jordan Junior High School, Lewiston Elementary School, and Smithfield Junior High. He was superintendent superintend-ent of schools for four years at Franklin, Idaho, and principal of Malad High School. He came to Pleasanet Grove as educational advisor for the C.C.C. Camp and capable principals and regret very much the fact that he will not continue con-tinue with us. He has done outstanding out-standing work both in the district, ' and as an officer in the Utah Educational Edu-cational Association, and has many friends in the state who will miss his fine association in public school work." The board will meet on Sept. 20 to consider the request of Mr. Merrill, and , if his release is accepted, ac-cepted, a new principal will be appointed at that time. |
