Show I I - ..2:.- ' ..BjlCB. The long week-end just enjoyed by our working men, should have proved ample time for a little stock-taking in contemplation of the many advantages 'that are theirs. In comparison with workers of any other country in the world, American labor enjoys the highest pay, the highest standard of living, liv-ing, the shortest work-week, and the most labor-saving devices. In listening to a radio broadcast by the national secretary of the American Federation of Labor Monday night, I was greatly impressed im-pressed with the grateful and humble hum-ble attitude of the man. There was nothing in his remarks of the rabble-rousing tactics so common in the speeches of top labor leaders. lead-ers. Perhaps labor is at last coming com-ing of age; and assuming responsibility respon-sibility for the part it plays in the program of American prosperity. BCB The announcement this week of the resignation of Ray S. Merrill as Principal of the Central School, came as a , surprise to the people of Pleasant Grove. Ray has served the educational interests of this community and the State of Utah faithfully and well for the past number of years. In short, he has devoted the best part of his life to the children of Pleasant Grove. Like many another top-notch Utah educator, his services to humanity were not confined to the schoolroom, but extended to the affairs of church and community. Throughout the years he has taxed tax-ed his health and vitality far beyond be-yond what seemed reasonable and fair. This column joins with hund reds of parents, children, and friends, in an expression of thanks for the part he has played in shaping shap-ing the lives of so many girls and boys. We wish him success in his new vocation. , BCB Being a watermaster, especially during a year of short supply, is withall a thankless job. In fact, the withholding of thanks is often not the worst part of it. People generally complain when the stream gets low and the time runs short. In spite of their better judgment, the often have a half-idea half-idea that the watemiaster is at least partly responsible for itx Regardless of the foregoing, this writer has been approached by several waterusers, and asked to give a word of public appreciation apprecia-tion to Watermaster Robert Oscar-son Oscar-son for his good works. Here it is Bob, and our personal bouquet goes with it. BCB Arriving at the REVIEW office at 7:30 Wednesday morning, with this edition of the BREEZE, we found Main Street sparkling clean. Not even a cigarette stub marred the appearance of the street, curb, or sidewalk. The brush and shovel boys had been doing a thorough job while most of us were asleep. The Street Department does not we are sure, ask for thanks; but could do with a little better cooperation cooper-ation on the part of adults and school students. It each person in town took care of his own litter; lit-ter; none would need to be gathered gath-ered up. So long 'til Friday. |
