' " m.. -- .. -.-"W "V':' - ' . ; - - i Bell System Science Series Features Second Program on Story of Blood on TV March 20 "Hemo the Magnificent," the second1 program in the Bell System Sys-tem Science Series, will be seen hore on Wednesday, March 20, at 7 p.m. over station KSL-TV, Chan- nel 5. The hour long -program will show some of the most unusual pictures ever seen on television in telling the story of blood and its circulation. Academy Award winner Frank Capra, producer of "Hemo 'the Magnificent," dramatizes facts about blood and the ciroulatory system with a combination of animation, an-imation, microscope photography, other medical photography, oar-toon oar-toon characters, and aotrs. Movies taken through a microscope actually ac-tually show the flow of blood In the arteries, capillaries, and veins. Other scenes show the beating of a living heart. Richard Carlson, known for both leading cinema and television roles and Dr. Frank Baxter, the famous University of -Southern California television professor, are the featured featur-ed actors in the film, who play the roles of Fiotion Writer and Dr. Research. They share honors with a series of cartoon characters created by Shamus Culhane Pror ductions, including "Hemo," the personification of blood. The story begins when Hemo reluctantly re-luctantly decides to listen to 'the story of blood as unfolded by Carlson Carl-son and Dr, Baxter. Animation demonstrates the function of the heart, lungs, lcidneys, and: other organis involved in the circulatory system. The film continues with a section sec-tion about the function of the heart. One sequence demonstrates, how and why the heart heat is speeded or slowed. The role of the barostat in eon-trolling blood pressure pres-sure to the brain is shown. And a theory of how blood may have, evolved from sea water is explain.' ed.
