Show Berries Lose 12-9 To Payson in Last Sunday Game Inability to hold an early game lead co:;t the Pleasant Grove Berries Ber-ries a 9 to 12 decision in a game played at Pays:n last Sunday after noon. Berry errors, of which there w-ere four, were also a contributing contribut-ing cause. Doug Ho:pes stalled on the mound for PG and kept the Lions in check until the end of the fourth. Meanwhile the Battle Creek Boys got busy with the hickory and pushed in 9 runs as against Payson's 2. Mr. Hoopes began to tire and the Lions got a couple more tallies tal-lies to make it PG 9 and Payson 4. Roland Robinson came to the rescue but had no luck as the pesky pes-ky Lions scored 8 more runs to cop the game 12 to 9, while holding hold-ing the Berries scoreless. In the hit department it was PG 10 and Payson 13. Darrell Harper got a triple and a single to help the Berry cause. Due to the American Legion Tourney Saturday, the Berries will be idle this week. Three games are on the schedule for-the following week, however, Monday and Wednesday Wed-nesday are home games with Or-em Or-em and American Fork, respectively respective-ly and Friday the PG's travel to Lehi. In the main the Berry hitting all season has been commendable; but miscues on defense have cost several games. Leading P.G. hitters include Doug Hoopes, 355; Roland Robinson, Robin-son, 350; James Hall, 300; Dan Buckner, 250; Doug Robinson, 250; Darrell Harper, 242 and Frank Laga, 238. |
