Show Lindon Soldier Is 'Soldier of Week' At Ft. Lewis, Wash. A letter from the Department of the Army, Fort Lewis, Wash., was a message of happiness to the George Jacklin home this week. The letter was written personally person-ally to Mr. and Mrs. Jacklin by the commanding officer of the 5th Infantry Regiment, Colonel E. Rusteberg, which read: "It is with the greatest pleasure that I forward for-ward this information concerning your son, Private Niles Jacklin. In direct competition with his fellow fel-low soldiers, numbering some 2400 your son was chosen the 5th Infantry In-fantry Regimental "Soldier of the Week," during the period 5 Sept. to 10 Sept. 1955. To achieve this honor your son has proven himself to be an outstanding out-standing soldier and has ably demonstrated dem-onstrated the qualities which are the heritage of our American way of life. Niles was my personal aide during the week and assisted me in various phases of my military duties. "By his selection as "Soldier of the Week" Niles has won the admiration ad-miration of myself and members of this command. His soldierly manner and attention to duty reflect re-flect great credit upon you, his parents." The Jacklins have five other boys, Eldsr Harold Jacklin, now laboring in Belfast, Ireland on an LDS mission; Eldon and LeRoy, both P. G. High students, and Ray and Milton, Lindon grade students. |
