Show Sewer at Battle Creek Heights Now Assured Mayor Edward Roberts reported report-ed Thursday that the final agreements agree-ments had been signed which will guarantee the extension of the city sewer to Battle Creek Heights. Mr. McCormick, builder of the subdivision, will pay $18,000 for the extension. In order that citizens of Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove may know the conditions condi-tions by means of which such extensions ex-tensions may be granted, the Mayor May-or asked that the special city ordinance governing the same be republished in this issue of the Review. It provides as follows: Section 4. Extension and Rebate Provision Any sub-divider, person or group of persons desiring sewer service for which extension sewer lines are required, may make petition to the City attaching thereto a map indicating the property to be served and the streets, alleys or highways in which the extension line is required to be laid. If there is attached to said Petition several sever-al applications for service, with the result that the total connection connec-tion fees to be paid to the City is equal to or exceeds the cost of said extension line, the City will promptly construct the same. If the cost of said line is in excess of such fees, the petitioners may advance such an additional amount as, in the opinion of the City and its Engineers will defray the cost of said extension, and the City will thereupon construct said extension ex-tension line. The petitioners will receive "credit" for the excess so paid (over and above the total of connection fees) and the city will thereafter, over a period of not to exceed seven years, and not to exceed ex-ceed the amount of the credit, rebate re-bate to the petitioners the full amount of connection fees paid to the City for connections into the said extension line so constructed. Sidewalks to the Grovecrest School will be completed this weekend. Mayor Roberts stated (Continued on page 6) Sewer Extension (Continued from page -1) that the city has as-jrance from the State Road Commission that the State Road Department will blacktop First East from Highway High-way 91 to Seventh North. The paving' pav-ing' will extend from sidewalk to sidewalk, according to present plans. At Monday night's City Council meeting the entire subject of city licenses came up for extended discussion. dis-cussion. According to Mayor Roberts, Rob-erts, the 1954 ordinances regulating regula-ting licenses was revised in the spirit of fairness; but the response ofj certain group doing business in the city has not been satisfactory. Council members are of the opinion that all those who engage in business within the corporate limits cf Pleasant Grove City should pay a fair and equitable license fee for the privilege. This should include all professional people who maintain a place of business and charge a fee for their services. The Council feels that is an injustice in-justice to demand a license fee from retail merchants and allow the professional people to get by without it. I However the Mayor said that no definite action would be taken until un-til a group meeting of City and County officials is held to study the problem. This meeting will be held later this month. Information received at the recent re-cent Municipal-Convention in Salt Lake City is to the .effect that collections of city license fees from professional people is entirely legal. A recent Utah Supreme Court decision upheld such legality, legal-ity, the Mayor said. |
