Show Mrs. Lavina Fugal Is Named Utah Mother of the Year Mrs. Lavina Fugal has been named Utah Mother of the year, according to an announcement made last Saturday by Mrs. Walter Walt-er A. Kerr, chairman of the Utah Mother of the Year Foundation. Mrs. Fugal was nominated for the honor by the three federated women's wom-en's clubs of Pleasant Grove, the Cadmus Club, the Elysium Club, and the Mothers Study Club. Perhaps the most truthful and glowing tribute ever paid to Mrs. Fugal was voiced in an editorial which appeared in the March 19 issue of the Deseret News. It reads as follows: "By awarding Mrs. Lavina C. Fugal of Pleasant Grove the title, "Utah's Mother of the Year," the sponsoring American Mothers Committee has given her the bluest ribbon that this well-known flower flow-er grower has ever received and for the biggest and best blossom ever, her motherhood. In her family fam-ily garden, her eight prize-winning flowers four sons and four daughters daugh-ters have distinguished themselves them-selves in many worth-while contributions contri-butions to the communities and in their various fields of activity. "Though her heart has quite properly belonged to her eight children, Mrs. Fugal has also found time and lots of it, too to devote to the Church and to her community. commun-ity. Her hobby of growing beautiful beauti-ful flowers for which she has won many county and state fair ribbons rib-bons has been another expression of making her neighborhood a prettier place in which to live. In representing Utah at the coming com-ing National Mothers Day fete in New York, this modest lady will not only take with her the best wishes of every Utahn, but also their admiration for her warm and human understanding and for her energetic and unselfish efforts to beautify the world through the lives of her children and her o'.htr interests." Mrs. Fugal will leave soon for the competition for Mother cf the Nation, which will be held in New York City during the latter part of May. |
